I suggest someone add Sterling Sharpe to the births. He was a first round draft pick, so he should be included. smithjacob

Greek soccer/football match notable?

[edit]

A user has been making numerous entries regarding all things Greek. While som eof these make sense to me (e.g. birthdates of former Prime Ministers), some do not. I would like to hear you thoughts on deleting items such as this from the date page. My suggestion is to delete such material: "*1996 - Panathinaikos becomes the first Greek team to win the European Championships (now Euroleague) in Paris, beating FC Barcelona by 67-66." Looking forward to your thoughts. Thanks, Hu Gadarn 21:31, 27 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

First I have to admit I know nothing about sports, American or any others (I tend to shy away from them for that reason). That being said, I know that football (soccer) is insanely popular everywhere in the world except the United States. I think that if it was a rivalry or a great upset it would be notable as has been the case in baseball, basketball and American football. I don't know enough to make that call though. -- Borameer 16:26, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Good Friday entry?

[edit]

Does this make sense in hear since the date changes from year to year? I propose no. Any thoughts? Thanks, Hu Gadarn 06:13, 12 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Western Christianity

[edit]

The Latter-Day-Saint movement commemorates The Birth of Jesus Christ and the First Resurrection. See: www.lds.org or Ensign magazine. 67.161.249.235 (talk) 08:52, 4 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The page currently states that Latter-Day Saints believe that Christ was born on this day. However, this is only an assertion made by some Latter-Day Saints, based primarily, so far as I can tell, on a very literal reading of a passage in Doctrine and Covenants 20:1, which may not be intended to be a statement of doctrine, but merely a statement that it was the year 1830. While a couple of apostles have asserted this as well, others have disagreed, and the exact date is not a matter of official doctrine. I think we should probably at the very least back off the language, and perhaps omit the entry.

Be careful when using "the"

[edit]
  • ...the first Greek team to win the European Championships !!!
  • The West!!!

I'd say (and shall write) :

  • The basketball European ... they have football, chess, and so on there!

I removed the words "by extremists" because no-one concretely knows who shot the president's plane down and guesses (no matter how probable they are) don't belong here. A reader can read the article about the genocide to achieve a fuller understanding of this incident Naufana : talk 00:56, 27 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Where is the consensus for using n-dashes as separators between dates and text? – ukexpat (talk) 17:10, 6 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

WP:MOSDASHJuliancolton | Talk 17:17, 6 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
OK I see that, but it is a very recent change on the "day" page. When was that implemented? – ukexpat (talk) 15:54, 7 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Dalai lama

[edit]

"1993 – The discovery of Chris Correll, the 4th Dalai Lama." Needs fact checking I think. Doesn't match with the dalai lama page or a google for the name. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 131.217.6.9 (talk) 05:41, 11 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It appears to be vandalism and I removed it. Thanks for pointing that out.--PinkBull 05:43, 11 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

UK fiscal year

[edit]

The UK fiscal year, at least for some purposes, runs from April 6 to April 5. Where does that belong?

92.116.139.140 (talk) 14:14, 5 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It doesn't belong anywhere in a date article. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 15:22, 5 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

150th anniversary of debut of The Tempest (Sullivan)

[edit]

April 6, 2011 will be the 150th anniversary of the first performance of Arthur Sullivan's suite of incidental music for The Tempest in Germany. This piece became a hit in London the following year and led to Sullivan's career as the leading British composer of the Victorian era, including his famous Gilbert and Sullivan operas. -- Ssilvers (talk) 17:29, 18 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

3D

[edit]

"2012 – Titanic is released in 3-D to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the RMS Titanic (15 April 1912)." Do not think this should be here — Preceding unsigned comment added by 95.83.203.55 (talk) 13:05, 6 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It isn't. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 13:27, 6 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Reminding The FAKE Birthday

[edit]

Excuse me! Ladies and Gentlemen, I would like to remind you all that; Tsunesaburō Makiguchi real birthday was on 23 July 1871, NOT 6 June, and also Nichiren real birthday was on 16 February 1222, NOT 6 April! So we hope that everybody NOT to citation the fake of dates, otherwise, you will get error confusion! Thank you and have a nice day...

Shayrat Airstrikes

[edit]

I wrote a paragraph on the Shayrat airstrikes for last year, but it looks like someone thought they weren't notable enough. Looking at the guy's talk page, it looks like he has a history of undoing edits and saying they "aren't notable," then refusing to explain. I would just put it back, but I think that would constitute an edit war. So, is it notable enough? Fredo699 (talk) 11:23, 18 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Given this post on rlbarton's talk page, I feel justified in adding my blurb back in. Fredo699 (talk)

Historical inaccuracy

[edit]

On the Deaths section there is "1340 – Basil, emperor of Trebizond (Turkey)", this was before the Turk occupation, when Trebizond was Trebizond, before 'turkey' existed - which existed after the Ottoman Empire anyway. Middle More Rider (talk) 11:59, 5 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

"International Asexuality Day"

[edit]

The link provided is not to an article about international asexuality day but rather to an article about asexuality. One of the sillier things to be found in Wikipedia but the link needs to be to a day 142.163.195.114 (talk) 23:33, 5 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
